PM Congratulates Female Athlete for Winning Gold Medal in World Petanque Championship

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian female athlete Ouk Srey Mom has secured Cambodia a gold medal, which brought proud and praises in the Kingdom, especially from Prime Minister Hun Sen. The World Petanque Championship is happening this year in Spain, with women’s championship opening the games.

Four Khmer athletes were sent to the women’s championship of Petanque, which happened between 12 and 14 of November in Santa Susanna, Spain. But it was Ouk Srey Mom who step at the center of the Podium, defeating Thailand with 39-27 points at the final round. She has beaten her Canadian counterpart with a 29-2 in the first quarter of the round and the Norwegian player 25-18 in the semifinals.

Ouk Srey Mom has also been a champion in 2017, winning two of the five medals Cambodia has achieved in the World Pentaque Championship. It’s a number of victories that only Cambodia has achieved in this sport. The winning called attention of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who posted in his Facebook page his congratulations for the athlete, stating the whole Kingdom is proud of her achievements in the championship.

The World Petanque Championship held the Junior’s category at the same period as the women’s game, while the best Cambodian players will play the male’s championship between Friday and Sunday this week.
